Supporting Hickory Golf in New Zealand
The New Zealand Society of Hickory Golf exists to support anyone interested in playing, learning about or promoting hickory golf.
Our activities include:
- administering the New Zealand Hickory Open;
- supporting regional events;
- maintaining a national player network;
- providing access to hickory handicapping;
- helping players locate suitable equipment;
- providing information on competition and equipment standards;
- supporting new playing groups;
- promoting women’s and mixed participation;
- coordinating regional and inter-regional opportunities;
- facilitating international tournament participation;
- maintaining relationships with overseas societies;
- encouraging historical research and equipment preservation; and
- promoting New Zealand as an international hickory destination.
A Point of Connection
Players approach the Society for many different reasons.
They may have inherited an old set of clubs and want to understand what they have. They may be looking for a regional playing group. They may want to learn how to restore a damaged shaft. They may be a modern golfer looking for a new challenge. They may wish to establish a hickory handicap or enter their first tournament. They may be preparing to represent New Zealand overseas.
Whatever their starting point, the Society aims to provide the information, introductions and opportunities needed to help them take the next step.

We preserve the history of the game not only through research, collections and records, but by continuing to take traditional clubs onto the course and use them for the purpose for which they were created.
